*Qualities* to look for in a friend~ Faith ~ Righteousness ~ God-fearing ~~ Morals and Good Character ~ ~ Those who remembering Allah ~-------------------------------------------------------------------------FaithFaith should be the first criterion for a meaningful friendship.Allah Subhanuhu wa Ta`ala says in Noble Qur`an;(interpretation of the meaning)"The believers, men and women, are Awliya (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another; they enjoin (on the people) al Maroof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from al Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); they perform as-Salaah (Iqamat-as-Salaah), and give the Zakaat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise."[Soorah Tawbah (9): 71]Thus, the friendship based on the correct faith aims towards supporting and encouraging one another towards the obedience of Allah. Its goal is much more sublime than the friendship that is done for worldly gain, and amongst its benefits is that it is a means to safeguard one's Aqeedah from being tainted with incorrect beliefs and practices.-------------------------------------------------------------------------Righteousness, God-fearingThe Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: '…Men are of two types, a man who is righteous, fearful of Allah and honorable to Allah, or a man who is vicious, miserable and insignificant to Allah, the Exalted,…' [al-Muntakhab by Abd bin Humayd (793)] The best of people to befriend are those who possess Taqwaa (fear of Allah) for, 'Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has Taqwa.'Soorah al-Hujurat (49): 13] and 'Allah loves those who are al-Muttaqin (those who possess Taqwa).' [Soorah Maryam (19): 63]Islam gives precedence to Taqwa in all matters, for example, in cases of marriage while choosing a life partner - Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) stressed upon choosing a pious spouse, he (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said, 'A women is married for four (reasons); her wealth, her nobility, her beauty and her piety. Choose the pious one and you will be successful.' [Saheeh al-Bukharee (7/27)] He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) also said, 'If a man, whose practice of the religion satisfies you, asks you for your daughter in marriage, you should marry them; otherwise, there will be corruption on the Earth.' [At-Tirmidhee]Choosing a friend is as important as choosing a life partner, therefore the wise choice are the Muttaqoon (those who possess Taqwa). Ali (radhi allahu anhu) advised, 'Befriend righteous people, for they are a good resource to use in this and the last life. Have you not heard the statement of the people of the Fire, 'Now we have no intercessors. Nor a close friend (to help us). (2): 175' [al-Ihya]Benefits of accompanying righteous people are numerous, amongst which is improving one's religion. As people are always found to be competitive within friends, associating with righteous individuals inspires competing them in righteous deeds, thus expanding the scope of performing righteous deeds and perfecting the religion. Narrated Abu Musa, it was said to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), 'A man may love some people but he cannot catch up with their good deeds?' The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said, 'Everyone will be with those whom he loves.'[Saheeh al-Bukharee (8/191)] Allah Subhanuhu wa Ta`ala says in Noble Qur`an;(interpretation of the meaning)'and the blessed end is for al-Muttaqin (those who possess Taqwa).' [Soorah al-A'raf (7): 128]....'O you who believe! Take not for Awliya those who take your religion for a mockery, …'[Soorah al-Maidah (5): 57]-------------------------------------------------------------------------Morals and Good CharacterIt is necessary that the friends you choose have good character and possess Islamic morals and etiquettes. Good character is a sign of excellence in Eeman.The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said,'The most perfect of the believer in faith is the one who is best in conduct and the best of you are those who are best to their wives.' [At-Tirmidhee. Authenticated by Shaikh Al-Albanee. See, Saheeh al-Jamee al-Sageer (1/1232)]Allah, the Exalted, has encouraged His slaves in the Qur'aan to associate with those who have good characteristics.Allah Subhanuhu wa Ta`ala says in Noble Qur`an;(interpretation of the meaning)'O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true (in words and in deeds).' [Soorah at-Tawbah (9): 119]It is essential that those whom you choose as friends recognize and respect the limits of Allah.For example, they should understand the Islamic etiquette of speaking and language, for sometimes talks among friends can go beyond bounds, like one may be involved in sins like Gheebah (backbiting), nick-naming, slandering, etc. which are generally considered to be very insignificant, but can have disastrous affect on one's Hereafter. .....The importance of good character is also manifest in the Hadeeth of Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) who said,'Nothing will be heavier on the Day of Resurrection in the scale of the believer than good manners. Allah hates one who utters foul or coarse language.' [At-Tirmidhee]The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) was asked about the deed, which will be foremost to lead a man to Jannah, he replied, 'Fear of Allah and the good character.' Then he was asked about the indulgence, which will admit a man to Hell and he replied, 'The tongue and the genitals.' [At-Tirmidhee]-------------------------------------------------------------------------Remembering AllahOne's associates and surrounding should help him remember Allah because man is ordered to remember Allah at all times. Remembrance of Allah strengthens the slave's bond with His Lord and prevents his heart and mind from being heedless of divine guidelines and limits.Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) saying, 'If anyone sits in a gathering where he does not remember Allah, he will bring grief upon himself (on the Day of Resurrection), and he who lies down in a place where he does not remember Allah, will bring grief upon himself (on the Day of Resurrection).' [Abu Dawood]The superiority of the remembrance of Allah was explained by Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam), who said:'The example of the one who remembers his Lord, in comparison to the one who does not remember his Lord, is that of a living creature compared to a dead.' [Saheeh al-Bukharee]In the present time of trials and tribulations, it is very easy to be caught up in worldly affairs. Allah warns His slaves against associating with those who busy themselves in worldly pleasures and give no heed to the remembrance of Allah.Allah Subhanuhu wa Ta`ala says in Noble Qur`an;(interpretation of the meaning)'And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord, morning and afternoon, seeking His Face and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose hearts We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lust and whose affairs (deeds) have been lost.'[Soorah al-Kahf (18): 28]The Qur'aan informs us that on the Day of Judgment there will be people who will bite their hands in regret that they were lead astray because of choosing wrong people as their friends, they would say,'Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend! He indeed led me astray from the Reminder (this Qur'aan) after it had come to me.' [Soorah al-Furqan (25): 27]Whereas, those who help one another in piety, truth and remembrance of Allah will surely benefit each other in the Hereafter. Allah will grant them His Shade on the Day of Judgment.Allah Subhanuhu wa Ta`ala says in Noble Qur`an;(interpretation of the meaning)'Friends on that day will be foe's one to another except Al-Muttaqoon (pious, righteous).'[Soorah az-Zukhruf (43): 67]

Yawning during prayer + Who is behind all this Yawning ?

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Yawning during prayer
There follow a number of the Prophet’s teachings on this matter:
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Yawning is from the Shaytaan. If any of you feels the urge to yawn, let him resist it as much as possible, for if any of you says Ha (makes a noise when yawning), the Shaytaan laughs." (al-Bukhari no. 3289)
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Allaah loves the act of sneezing and dislikes the act of yawning. If any one of you sneezes and praises Allaah, it is a duty on every Muslim who hears him to say Yarhamak Allaah (May Allaah have mercy on you).As for yawning, it is from Shaytaan, so if any of you feels the urge to yawn, let him resist it as much as he can, for if any of you yawns, the Shaytaan laughs at him." (al-Bukhari, Fath, no. 6226)
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Yawning is from Shaytaan, so if any of you feels the urge to yawn, let him resist it as much as he can." (Muslim, 2994)
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Sneezing is from Allaah and yawning is from Shaytaan. If any of you yawns, let him place his hand over his mouth. If he says Ah, ah! (makes a noise when yawning), Shaytaan laughs from inside him." Abu Eesaa said: this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2746; classified as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 4130)

Abu ‘Eesaa said: This is a saheeh hadeeth. (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 2747)
Abu Saeed al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "If any of you yawns, let him cover his mouth lest the Shaytaan enter." (Abu Dawud)
Abu Saeed al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "If any of you feels the urge to yawn, let him resist it as much as possible, lest the Shaytaan enter his mouth." (Imaam Ahmad)
According to another report also narrated by Imaam Ahmad, Shaytaan enters when a person yawns. (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 426)
From the reports quoted above, we may summarize the following:
1. That Shaytaan prompts the human to yawn, which is indicative of laziness and sluggishness.
2. That Shaytaan enters the person who yawns.
3. That Shaytaan laughs at man and makes fun of his ugly appearance when he is in that state.
The person who is praying must take care of the following:
1. He should resist yawning.
2. He should cover his mouth
3. He should suppress his voice (not make a sound).

Who is behind all this Yawning ?

Have you ever noticed that as soon we stand up for prayer, want to read the Quraan, or some other act of worship, we suddenly get this irrepressible urge to start yawning? And it’s not like it is our bedtime either! It’s the middle of the day, we were fine a few minutes ago and now, all of a sudden, we get this irresistible desire to yawn. Why is that?
That is because yawning comes from the Shaytaan.
The Prophet (pbuh) said:"Yawning is from Shaytaan, so if any of you feels the urge to yawn, let him resist it as much as he can." (Muslim)
In another hadeeth he (pbuh) said: “Yawning comes from the Shaytaan, so if one of you feels the urge to yawn, let him suppress it as much as he can, for if one of you says ‘haa’ (the sound made when yawning), the Shaytaan laughs.” (Bukhaari, Muslim).
The Ulama said, explaining the concept of yawning: “Yawning is attributed to the Shaytaan in the sense that he approves of it and wants it to happen, i.e., the Shaytaan likes to see a man yawning. Also, every makrooh action is attributed to the Shaytaan in Islam because he is the means behind it. Yawning is caused by a full stomach and leads to laziness, and that is by the means of the Shaytaan.”
In other words, the Shaytaan wants to make us lazy, especially when it comes to worshipping Allaah, and so he distracts us from prayer, worship, etc. by making us yawn. And, of course, that pleases him.
The Prophet (pbuh) also said:"Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning….." (Bukhaari)
"If any of you yawns, let him cover his mouth lest the Shaytaan enter." (Abu Dawud)
"When one of you yawns, he should keep his mouth shut with the help of his hand, for it is the devil that enters therein.” (Muslim)
Now, I know some of us ‘educated’ ones out there will argue…. “But, yawning is due to lack of oxygen in the brain” or something like that. To them I say….“It doesn’t matter whether there is lack of oxygen or surplus of oxygen or whatever. There is one thing that has to be CRYSTAL CLEAR in the mind of the Muslim and that is…. If the Prophet (pbuh) said that yawning is from the Shaytaan, then yawning is from the Shaytaan and that is the end of the matter, no matter what science or anyone else says!
To minimize yawning during prayer or other worship
1. Start your prayer when you are energetic and active
2. Don’t delay Isha prayer too late when you know you will tend to be lazy and sleepy
3. Remember that the Shaytaan is your enemy so regard him as such, and try to resist him as much as you can
4. Ask Allaah to protect you against yawning and distraction in your prayer or worship
5. Focus on the meanings of what you are reciting or saying
6. Renew your wudu to help you ‘wake up’ before every Salaah or act of worship
7. Also, stop reciting until the yawning has ended, or else you may distort the recitation with the yawning. (Fath al-Baari)
8. And, don’t eat too much, since overfilling the stomach leads to heaviness and lethargy
Al-Nawawi said: “Yawning is attributed to the Shaytaan because it calls to desires, as it is caused by heaviness of the body and lassitude and fullness. What it means is: beware of the causes that lead to that, which is…eating too much.”
9. If you DO end up yawning, make sure to cover your mouth and, DON’T make the ‘haa’ sound associated with yawning. Surely, you don’t want the Shaytaan laughing at you!
Remember, don’t disregard yawning as a trivial matter as there are no trivial matters when it comes to our deen and following the instructions of the Prophet

Eavesdropping on people who do not want to be heard
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
". . . And spy not (on one another) . . ."
[al-Hujuraat 49:12].
Ibn Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever listens to other peoples conversations without their permission will have molten lead poured into his ears on the Day of Resurrection . . ."
(Reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 11/248-249; see also Saheeh al-Jaami', 6004).
If this person then goes and tells others of the conversation he overheard in order to cause trouble for them, then his sin of spying is compounded by another sin, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The eavesdropper will not enter Paradise." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, see Fath al-Baari, 10/472).
